PowerBook 540c, Apple //c, PET 8032, Olivetti M15, Mac SE
Still trying to get a working C/PM system on the Olivetti. Thinking about a musical duet between the PET and the //c - And if it arrives and works i may use the ZX81 in this too.
The 540c may be used to stick things all together for the purpose of showing the finished 'goods' to the world.
The SE, erm... not sure just now.

1. Learn how to control the Drumulator drum machine via the Apple IIc built-in serial port.
2. Create new voices for Michael Mahon's RT.Synth (Apple II).
3. Record a demo song using the above.

1. Write a handful of simple games in Applesoft.
2. Learn 6502 Assembly language.
3. Write a research proposal in AppleWorks.
I will be using an Apple IIe, an Apple IIc, and an Apple ImageWriter II printer to accomplish these goals.

The main objective will be to use vintage technology only for everyday work. This will have two parts: one will be to set up a Mac Plus as web server/ file server to replace my current Linux web server. People will be able to access the Mac Plus from the outside world to see that it is a functioning internet server. The other part will involve in using an SE/30 for everyday tasks such as calendar, email, wordprocessing, gaming, etc. Finally, if there's time I´ll write a small program in ASM probably for the Apple II or BBC Master.

1. Create a media center computer with a Power Macintosh 6100. You’ve heard of the 6100av and 6100dos – I will endeavor to create the 6100mc.
2. Serial for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Put together a Power Computing Mac clone with a large number of serial ports using hardware/software based switch boxes, internal cards, and an external adapter.
3. Learn about serial connectivity and transferring files from Apple ][s to vintage Macs to PDAs and so on.

I'll be using my modestly upgraded Amiga 2000 in a mostly creative capacity, although I may also go for an endurance run as well, with a couple of extra challenges thrown in for good measure.

The main objective will be maintaining and tweaking my newly installed LC475 web server, which will be hosting my blog during January. The site is still being added to, so I will be writing some more pages about BBC Micro computers and possibly creating a larger downloads section. The pages and blog will be written using my reliable workhorse - a Quadra 700. I'll also dig out some old tape games for my BBC Model B and have a good bit of retro gaming fun! Some short reviews of the games will be posted in my blog and perhaps even screenshots. Additionally I'm going to try and find a good use for my SE/30 as it has been sitting unused for quite a while.

I intend to ressurect one of my Acorns to serve as an automated model train controller. It'll most likely be using an A3000 with a USER port fitted (as on the old BBC B, which I would use if I still had one). If I can find the old book with plans for a direct controller I'll do it that way. Otherwise I may end up using a PIC to do the interfacing.

hmmm... I think I will work on my Apple //gs again and realize a transfer
between Mac and Apple II world.
Also I like to get my WOZ Core CL 9 remote control in working order.
I wonder if I can use it in 2008 to replace my remote controls.
And the Mac SE/30 in the corner likes to get an internal CD drive,
lets do it :-)

I will be using a PowerBook Pismo running OS9 as my only workstation,
a g3 webserver running OS9 and a Quadra 950 running 7.5 as a hotline /
bbs / file server. As someone who still appreciates MacOS but uses OSX
exclusively now, I want to see if I can still work and be productive
in an older OS. This will also set the stage for the summer challenge
with older 68k hardware and applications. People say classic and MacOS
is dead?? No way!

Try to use exclusively "obsolete" systems. My main portable computer will be my PowerBook 540c running System 7.5.5, and I will also be re-celling three of the batteries for it (as long as the new cells get here in time). I'll do my best to provide all updates from my 540c. For desktops, I shall use either my Performa 5420 (System 7.6), or my Power Macintosh 7600/200 (OS 8.6). I'll have a Pentium II-based Dell Latitude 7000 running Windows 98 SE for the peecee side, with Firefox for web pages that won't render properly under IE 5 or iCab on my old Macs.
For loading pictures from my six-year-old digital camera, I'll have to use my PowerBook 2400c with its USB card, as I don't have any of my QuickTakes with me, though I may be able to source an old floppy-based Sony Mavica. I may also shoot video for the battery recell process and any projects that might also benefit from live action, and will attempt to source Final Cut Pro or iMovie (if possible) for my B&W G3 (OS 9) to edit the video.

Mars is presently in retrograde, but remains in a good position for viewing throughout the month of January from my location. My plan is to make observations of Mars each night, weather permitting, and to post a daily update each night from my PowerBook 170.
My update will include an image depicting the position of Mars in relation to Earth each day using Orrery 1.2 and converted to a jpg image using JPEGView 3.3.1. I will sketch my observations of the planet using MacPaint 1.0 and make my notes in TeachText 1.2. This update will be created daily on the PowerBook 170.
The PowerBook 170 will go online each day for four hours, running MacHTTP, to make these observations available. The dial-up dynamic URL will be posted on the Blog URL above. At the conclusion of each day, the daily update will be posted to the blog from the 170 using Eudora 1.3.1.
My telescope is a small Cstar Stratus refractor, with which I should just be able to discern the disk of the planet. I may attempt some photographs using a 35 mm Fuji Discovery 500 zoom camera, which is approximately of the same era as the 170.

As a long-term project, I'm designing a barebones "museum piece" computer I call the 2N2/256 BSCP, a bit-serial machine along the lines of an LGP-30, Bendix G-15, or Packard Bell PB-250. To keep costs down and keep it interesting, I want to use only components that would have available to mere mortals in the mid sixties (no ICs except those few commonly available to hobbyists ca. 1965). I'm limiting my madness to discrete transistors, specifically the 2N2222. I'm further limiting the number of transistors semi-arbitrarily to 256.

The goal, since I just joined a local Amiga group, is to get an Amiga computer up and running and on the BBS's and so forth. Also plan on getting my trusty Atari 800 up and running during this time also and playing in the Atariage.com high score contests.

My challenge is to write and actually finish writing a fully featured game for Macintosh System 6. I will be using my Macintosh Classic II (System 6.0.8L, 4-10MB RAM, 40MB HD etc.) and Microsoft QuickBASIC 1.0. I might also try networking the Classic with my iMac, but we'll see.

I have three projects I'm working on in parallel now, and they just happen to fit the theme and timing of the RetroChallenge. My goals include getting three classic systems completely up and working: 1. A bare DEC 3000, 2. A bare Amiga 3000, and 3. A bare Spectre GCR emulating Macintosh on an Atari TT030. I intend to Get the basic operating system installed on each machine, get them all networked to whatever degree possible, and establish some form of communication among all of them (this is the open-ended portion of the effort :)).
